Well this is the first bit of solid information we have had on this in I don’t know how long.

Yes, we’ve had the usual speculation and conjecture about Jota making his loan move to Celtic a permanent one, of course we have, but there was always hope, on the Portuguese wingers side anyway, that there was a chance he could make his mark at his boyhood hero’s.

Well, that seems to be dead on the water now as Kieran Devlin of The Athletic has revealed.

Devlin said of the wingers future at The Eagles, “A Benfica fan from Lisbon, no one could begrudge the 23-year-old the opportunity to go home to play regularly for his boyhood club.

“Yet when incoming manager Roger Schmidt confirmed Jota would not be part of his plans, it clarified the situation.

“It is believed Jota is now close to making his move to Celtic permanent, as first reported by Portuguese outlet A Bola.

“He reportedly became convinced that staying at Celtic pushes him forward, just as his initial loan move to Glasgow was the platform he needed to relaunch a career that was beginning to stutter.”

Not wanted by Benfica. If that’s not a calling sign that Jota needs to stay where he is then I don’t know what is.

Let’s see how this plays out in the coming days.
