The Giorgos Giakoumakis story is a strange one isn’t it?

It has been going back and forward for the last seven days now with a reported move to Urawa Reds on, then back off and back on again.

MLS side Atlanta United are also rumoured to be in the mix and speaking on the deal, Mark Guidi was casting his eye over it with an air of suspicion.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show, Guidi said, “The fact that they’ve got a striker in on Oh and the reports seem to be he’s got good potential and then you get quite excited with something like that.

“But that said, I still find it strange that Giakoumakis is going halfway through a season when A: there’s a treble up for grabs and B: for the fee involved.

“I don’t know the full background for what’s going on but I just find that very unlike Celtic to be selling such an asset.

“If the fee’s accurate, around the £4 million mark, it just doesn’t add up to me.

“So like I say, I don’t know the background to it. I find it strange to let a goalscorer go but the manager is clearly relaxed about it because you get someone else in the building and you crack on.

“Celtic’s in a good place. The manager, nine times out of ten, seems to get it right in the transfer market.

“So you crack on. But it does seem a very, very low transfer fee.”

I think the good money would be on Giakoumakis joining the MLs wouldn’t it?

Although could he also remain at the club till the end of the season?

It really is a conundrum and one that I hope is sorted out sooner rather than later.

Celtic are set to face Livingston tonight at Paradise and the only real guarantee I can give over GG is that he definitely won’t feature tonight.

Yeah, I know. Hardly earth-shattering news is it?

I appear on the ACSOM podcast every Wednesday 1230pm-130pm. Join us for the latest chat and gossip about Celtic.

Who am I? Can you guess who this former Celt is?

Goodness’ sake, it’s an open ended two edged sword. He’s under contract, he’s a good player, scores goals. Alternatively, if he considers his horizons elsewhere, a sufficient transfer fee will be involved.
