I wrote about this story on Wednesday and thought that we shouldn’t touch this player. At all.
Because Ryan Porteous, as I explained at the time, has the habit of being a liability for his team.
Look at Hibs. Not much pressure in terms of needing to win every single game, never mind trophies, and yet Porteous’ temperament gets him into all sorts of trouble.
At Celtic, there is a certain kind of mentality that determines whether or not you will be successful at the club and I just think Porteous doesn’t have it.
But Marvin Bartley does.
In fact, Bartley insists that Celtic should be looking at Porteous and says the club should look to sign him for free.
Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Bartley said, “I think if Ryan Porteous is a free in May and there’s probably clubs interested in him.
“There might be three or four sniffing around now, and they [Hibs] want to let every single one of them know that ‘Listen if you want to come for him, he has told us he’s leaving the football club if you want to come in January’
“Teams start bidding against each other and that’s how you get the most amount of money.
“I don’t think any club outside of Celtic and Rangers could afford to lose Ryan Porteous for nothing.”
When asked if he thought both clubs would take a look at him, Bartley said, “I think they have to.
“They’ll both have scouting reports on him. They’ve both played against him many times.
“I think at 23 years of age, you have to be interested in him. You have to.
“Celtic have already made a signing but it may be that they sign him on a pre-contract in January, they could get him in May.”
Even for a free transfer, I still think we should avoid this player.
Plus, with Kobayashi coming in and the possibility of signing Jenz in the summer, we already have better, and more reliable options available.
We will not be signing this player.
He does not have the ability to succeed at our club and he does not match the credentials that we expect from decent human beings. There may be other clubs interested, but not us. Don’t be too disappointed Mr Bartley. However, we have no need of your input whatsoever. You were attached to a club who have no scruples, so your thoughts are meaningless.
I agree with you 100% Paddy. Celtic, sorry, Ange do not want players like Porteous anywhere near our first team squad – he’s a liability. Maybe across the city where they are used to having liabilities is where he should go. He ticks all their boxes – FREE!!
Fans said the same about Scott Brown, all those yellows and reds. Give him a chance.

Yet again another player with potential. Those first 2 signings from Big Ange shows we’re past that stage. Possibly, the odd one but in reality we don’t need numbers we need players to start in the UCL next year……assuming the glory that is Glasgow Sevco don’t go unbeaten in their next 23 league games…..😏
