I remember this day very clearly.

The day Brendan Rodgers quit Celtic, I was holidaying in Australia and woke at around 5am to the news that the Northern Irishman had left in the middle of the night to go and join Leicester City.

The immediate fan reaction that I recall was just a collective feeling of being stunned.

No one could quite believe that Rodgers would leave Celtic for a mid-table EPL side at the tail end of a season where an unprecedented Treble Treble was up for grabs.

But as the shock wore off, those feelings quickly turned to anger amongst some of the support and former Celtic defender Kieran Tierney opened up on how the players viewed that and the fear he felt when the time came for him to leave the club.

Speaking to the Daily Mail (via Glasgow Live), Tierney said, “We’d seen the reaction that Brendan Rodgers had got when he left Celtic for Leicester, so it was kind of scary.

“But it’s a very small minority. A lot of people messaged me saying: ‘All the best, we’re so proud of you, go smash it.’

There are still fans that don’t forgive Rodgers for doing what he did.

To leave the club when we were on the verge of creating history is something I won’t understand but as time passed, many fans have already forgiven the Leicester boss for walking out on the club.

As for Tierney? As he said, there was a tiny minority of fans that were not happy with him but from my experience, the vast majority did not grudge him his big move to the English Premier League.

Tierney will move on to a bigger and better club than Arsenal and it will be interesting to see if those early summer rumours of him being linked to top  European clubs come to fruition.
