Celtic’s defensive issues have been long documented and frailties in the Hoops back line have been brutally exposed not only on the European front, but also on the domestic scene.

With Ange Postecoglou seemingly scouting the transfer market for reinforcements, a US journalist has claimed Celtic are looking to buy US international Cameron Carter-Vickers from Tottenham Hotspur.

In a tweet late last night journalist Larry Henry Jr said “Celtic has shown interest in acquiring him from Tottenham this summer……..It would be a permanent move for him, not a loan.”

Carter-Vickers spent last season on loan a Bournemouth as he tried to help The Poppies in their push to the English Premier League. The 23 year old made 26 appearances for Bournemouth last season as he completed his fourth consecutive season on loan since he signed for Spurs professionally back in 2016.

Should Leigh Griffiths be given another chance at Celtic?

Carter-Vickers is a product of the Spurs youth system when he was spotted at just aged ten by the Spurs scouts. Former manager, Mauricio Pochettino gave the big American defender his break back in 2015 when he named him as part of his Europa League squad against Monaco.

He didn’t make his full debut until a year later when he appeared in Spurs 5-0 thrashing of Gillingham in the League Cup.

Carter-Vickers has over 30 international youth caps but made his full US debut against Portugal in a substitute appearance as the Americans played out a 1-1 draw against Portugal in November 2017. He has eight international caps to his name.

The towering defender certainly seems like the real deal and Celtic gaffer, Postecoglou seems to be in the driving seat after interest in Carter-Vickers cooled from Fulham and Cardiff.
