It wouldn’t be a transfer window without a silly Celtic link to £6.3m-rated striker

Celtic have been bizarrely linked with Southampton striker Shane Long in the final few days of the summer transfer window.

According to The Sun (print edition August 26th, page 61), via HITC, the Hoops are interested in signing the player on loan before the Friday deadline.

Most Hoops fans will probably find this amusing considering we are linked with the player in almost every transfer window.

He’s become something of a Robbie Keane character, who you might remember was consistently reported to be on the verge of a move to Celtic before finally arriving on loan.

Unfortunately for all parties Long doesn’t quite have the quality Keane had and it’s unlikely he would make an impact at Celtic Park given the presence of Moussa Dembele and Odsonne Edouard.

The £6.3m-rated striker has had a notoriously difficult time at Saints recently, scoring just five goals in the last two English Premier League season despite making 62 appearances.

It’s not the kind of scoring record that Celtic fans will find much excitement in even if he is playing at a higher level than the Scottish Premiership.

Hopefully we can put this one behind us before the speculation gets out of hand.
