Vital Celtic reported late last night that the goalkeeping chase for Australian international Mat Ryan may not yet be over for the Hoops.

After an interview with Australian media, Ryan seemed to suggest that he was open to a move to Glasgow when he opened up on Fox Australia, “And obviously, given the relationship between Ange and I in the past, in the national team, I think there’s a lot of people putting two and two together. It’s interesting, that move may come about.”

That excited the Celtic fans as they recognise that the goalkeeping position needs serious strengthening this season as confidence in Vasilis Barkas ability is still low amongst the fans.

Unfortunately it seems that that optimism may be short lived as former Socceroo and now agent, Craig Moore claims that he can’t see that deal happening.

Speaking on Go Radio, Moore said, “I’m not really sure what’s going, just waiting and seeing. And trying to give the diplomatic answer.”

“I don’t think that will happen.  I just think that that’s Celtic at the moment, obviously have invested quite a bit with a goalkeeper.

So you got to take all these things into consideration. Matty Ryan is still under contract at Brighton and I think you start talking, financially, it gets a little bit pricey so for me.

“It’s easy to link him being an Aussie and having played under Ange, but I don’t see how this can can actually happen.”

That would be a devastating blow to the Celtic fans who genuinely think there is a chance that Ryan was exchanging the seaside life for the city life in Glasgow.

Hopefully with the Ange connection, the Celtic gaffer can pull off a masterstroke and persuade the 60 capped star to join the Hoops.

But it doesn’t look likely.
