There has been many opinions given about the possibility of Eddie Howe becoming the next Celtic manager. I don’t claim to speak on behalf of the Celtic fans but what I am qualified to give, is their opinion on what they think of certain suggestions for the Celtic manager.

I have ran polls on Eddie Howe, Roy Keane, and Steve Clarke.  It is fair to say that when a new name has come up, I have written about it and ran a poll to gauge the fan reaction to it. What I will never do, again, is to claim I speak for the fans.

Hugh Keevins, speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, did and he made a completely unfounded insinuation that mystified even me. Keevins made the following claim on the weekends show, “Well the understanding is that at Howe, along with Celtic’s incoming Chief Executive Dominic McKay, met with Dermot Desmond in his London home a few days ago.

Should Eddie Howe replace Neil Lennon?

YES

NO

“I do believe that Eddie Howe is the one that Celtic have decided they want. I will be consistent in my own position, I’m not sure that Eddie Howe excites everyone.

“Again, there’ll be a percentage of the Celtic fans who are definitely having him and others who will think it’s not the biggest appointment that Celtic could have made.”

Now, don’t get me wrong. There are fans that have reservations about Howe. But those reservations are based on whether he has the experience of handling a big game club. Can he handle the pressure of expectation of winning week in, week out? Perfectly valid questions as the Celtic job will be the biggest one he has had to date.

But to claim that he speaks for fans that think Howe isn’t a big name is laughable at best. Howe was so successful in England, he was on the cusp of the Arsenal job, heck he was once touted for the England job when Bournemouth were flying in the English Premier League.

Howe is a massive name in England. He will be a huge appointment if Celtic can pull it off, up there with Brendan Rodgers. But the board must seal the deal quickly, as EPL jobs will become available in the summer that may catch Howe’s eye.
