On loan Celtic winger Lewis Morgan is excited about playing for Sunderland in the second half of the season.

Morgan made his debut for the Black Cats in English League One on Saturday, starting the match and helping them to an important 1-0 win over AFC Wimbledon.

It leaves Sunderland three points adrift of the automatic promotion spot with games in hand, well in control of their own destiny this season.

The Hoops winger is determined to be part of something special, revealing why he chose to move to the Stadium Of Light rather than other clubs.

As quoted by The Chronicle, Morgan said:

As soon as the chance came up to come here my mind was made up. I’m working with a coaching staff I’ve got massive respect for, a massive club, it’s something I’m excited about.

I never thought about it in terms of the league I’m coming to. It was about the club – great facilities, massive club, that would interest everyone.

I think it’s well documented that there was interest from the Championship down here and the Premiership up north, but it’s a massive club with great people. I’m very happy to be part of it.

Working with his former boss at St Mirren Jack Ross will be fantastic for the Scotland international’s development over the next few months. Morgan performed superbly under Ross in Paisely and should have the confidence to make a big impact in League One.

Celtic fans are hoping Morgan can use the loan to emulate the success of Callum McGregor and Ryan Christie, who both left the Hoops before returning and becoming a big part of the first-team.

Can the 22-year-old do similar? We’ll be watching his progress closely.
