There are three players that Ange Postecoglou referenced this weekend when it came to contract extensions for three players who are into the last 18 months of their deals.

The Celtic boss said that he is ‘constantly talking to the trio’, “With those three guys (Hart, Mooy, Turnbull), I’m constantly talking to them about what their ambitions are. I want to make sure that every step of the way we’re looking after the player’s interests – but also looking after the club’s interests too.

“Every decision will be made against that backdrop.” [Football Scotland]

It goes without saying that I believe the three of them should be given new deals as all three have contributed and can contribute to the team moving forward but, ultimately, the Celtic boss will make that final decision.

And he has proven to be brutal when making those decisions as we have already seen with Josip Juranovic and Giorgos Giakoumakis.

Out of the three, who would be the biggest loss to the team? The boys from The Celtic Exchange Podcast were discussing this when James said, “I’d love to see Joe Hart stay at Celtic and start working with Stevie Woods on the goalkeeping coaching team.

“Just the level of experience he’s got.

“Learning new tricks he has in terms of just football playing it from the back.

“He would be invaluable not just to a replacement number one but to the youth coming through thereafter.

“A real favourite, he’s come in and done a great job.

“And we needed a goalie given what had gone on before.

“In terms of making money from him, he got us into the position where we won the league and got us into the Champions League for his £1m. So there is nothing to recoup there.

“He would be a sore one to lose but he came at Celtic to play football and I don’t think he’s lost [ambition] that yet.”

Hart, for me, has been one of the most influential characters in the Celtic squad. Pivotal to Ange Postecoglou’s rebuild, the former England keeper gave us stability at the back at a time when all the Celtic fans were still having nightmares about Vasilis Barkas.

Let’s hope Joe stays beyond his current deal and helps blood through the next generation of Celtic keepers from the B team.

Who are Celtic’s most capped players from these countries?
