Journalist suggests Rodgers’ exit from Celtic was even more calculated than first thought

|

Daily Record journalist Michael Gannon believes Brendan Rodgers may have been planning his exit from Celtic for weeks, preparing to be unveiled as Leicester City boss.

Writing in his paper column, he reckons the royal blue suit that Rodgers was wearing on the day he was paraded as the Foxes’ new manager is a sign he was plotting his exit for a lot longer than the hasty move down south on Monday and Tuesday.

At this point no fan would be surprised at anything Rodgers did in his final days at Celtic manager given the strength of feeling surrounding his exit.

If he was duplicitous enough to leave Celtic in the lurch prior to a crucial trip to Tynecastle then it’s perfectly feasible that he was orchestrating his move to England for weeks before Claude Puel was sacked.

He’s ruined what was going to be a legendary legacy at Celtic, even if anger subsides in the coming months and years. Fans may eventually become more appreciative of the success he brought to the club, but no-one will ever trust a thing he says ever again.

Whether it was a decision he had to make quickly or one taken over the course of weeks or months doesn’t matter, the fact he exited in the manner he did will never sit well with supporters.
