Journalist Mark Guidi has dropped a name that he reckons could become the next Celtic manager should the deal for Eddie Howe not come to fruition.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show, Guidi was still adamant that Howe will be named the manager, but offered an alternative, “Eddie Howe I still think will be the front runner. But unless there’s some kind of deal taking place that we don’t know about, I really think it should be given the guy, a deadline.

“I don’t think it’ll be John Kennedy, but I want to throw one name into the mix. A former Celtic player who I think, if they need to go down the route of going for a former Celtic player.

“Then, I’m going to put as being a contender. Somebody they’ll look at, I’ll give you Shaun Maloney, as an outsider for the Celtic job,

“Just one or two things I’ve noticed in the past week or two. I would say that if they are looking  at that kind of connection to the club with coaching experience, not necessarily being a manager, I think Shaun Maloney stands a good chance.”

When pressed by presenter Paul Cooney an what he has noticed that would make him think that, Guidi replied, “Him doing a couple of interviews and  comes across very well on the telly. A couple of  newspaper interviews, given his credentials, working with Martinez and his connection to the club how he handles a big name players with Belgium.

“I think in terms of his profile in terms of what he can deliver, but I still think it’s going to be Eddie Howe but after that, I’m not sure. And the fact he could work with John Kennedy as well.

“They are friends, they’ve got a working relationship. He’s been at the club. So listen, I’m not saying he’s going to be appointed what I’m saying is if it’s not gonna be Eddie Howe, I think it becomes wide open, and therefore, I would put Shaun Maloney’s name in.”

This is not the first time Maloney has been linked with the managers position at Paradise and his credentials certainly are fitting for a job of this stature. But my only concern is the magnitude of the job that is required at Celtic Park next season. Is it fair to stick a relative rookie manager in or does it need an experienced hand?
