A journeyman in all respects, this giant Swede has steadied a shaky and unreliable Celtic defence to a better goals against record than Rangers this season, his effectiveness lies within his giant stature and hard tackling, he’s as solid in the air at the back as he is up front, although Celtic have yet to benefit from this side of his game but he has shown glimpses.

He was signed as a Bosman off AEK Athens on the 16th of August as they are in dire financial difficulty and essentially handed his contract over to Celtic. He is a well travelled player with bags of experience all over Europe from Sweden to Switzerland and everywhere in between, anywhere he has been he has achieved a cult status amongst the fans for his impressive defending and aggressive attacking play from set pieces.

He has shored up leaks in Celtic’s defence and has formed a good partnership with Glenn Loovens even improving Loovens’ all round play, he has added experience and leadership both of which were lacking from the Tony Mowbray era Celtic defence. No more bullying into errors as this imposing Swede has proved.

‘Maestro’ as he is affectionately known amongst Celtic fans has proved so far that it only takes a bit of experience to guide a stumbling defence and could prove to be one of Lennon’s most astute signings, as they say the best things in life are free. He is also a fully fledged Swedish international and was part of the Swedish team that trounced Scotland 3-0 in a friendly a couple of months back.

This much capped Swede will no doubt chip in with a few goals this season as his record at FC Basle proved with an unbelievably impressive 23 in 85 appearances, what better way to start the goal scoring than on Sunday.
