Celtic suffered only their second domestic defeat under Brendan Rodgers as Kilmarnock claimed a second-half winner at Rugby Park.

Former West Bromwich Albion and Norwich City midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu provided the decisive strike when volleying in with around twenty minutes of the contest remaining.

Defender Jack Hendry was handed an immediate debut for the visitors, with fellow newcomer Scott Bain included on the bench after both arrived from Dundee earlier in the week.

Hoops midfielder Olivier Ntcham sliced an early long-range effort wide before team-mates Dedryck Boyata and Kristoffer Ajer went on to suffer first-half knocks and be replaced by Nir Bitton and Scott Sinclair.

Goalkeeper Dorus de Vries was twice forced to save from Jordan Jones while his colleagues were struggling to create anything of real note by way of reply.

However, Ntcham despatched a free-kick over the crossbar and substitute Sinclair also saw a deflected effort after the interval.

But it was Mulumbu then returning Jones’ 70th minute delivery across goal and into the bottom corner to make the vital breakthrough.

Home keeper Jamie MacDonald later fended off another Ntcham free-kick, although both Jones and match-winner Mulumbu could have further advanced the home advantage during the closing stages.
