Wonderkid. It’s a term best kept for Football Manager as in real life, these ‘wonderkids’ very rarely turn out to be that.

Islam Feruz. Charly Musonda. Patrick Roberts. Three players that plied their trade at Celtic with that label and three players who’s careers were less than wonderful.

However, according to reports late last night [Daily Record], Celtic are chasing one such ‘wonderkid’ in Motherwells Bailey Rice.

The 15 year old is predominantly a central defender but can play defensive midfield.

Rice has already been capped thirteen times at u16 and u17 level for Scotland and is thought to be one of the most talented youngsters in the country at the moment.

As he is under 16, he is not yet eligible to sign a professional contract which means Celtic could land him for a steal should he agree to join the Hoops this summer.

The report also claims that Celtic are facing of their Glasgow rivals and another unnamed English Premier League club for Rice’ signature.

Our club have a long history of plucking talented players from Motherwell over the years.

The late Phil O’Donnell, Scott McDonald and, more recently, David Turnbull and Rice could carry on that tradition if the club manage to persuade him to learn his trade in the east end of Glasgow.
