Late night report: Postecoglou ‘will not stand in the way’ of Celtic star leaving

Another day, another transfer rumour.

And whilst the mainstream media report that another player is seemingly unhappy Celtic, just how accurate are these reports?

The reason I ask is that whenever these players pull on the jersey, they give their all. They give 100%. An unhappy player simply does not do that.

As we have seen at another club I won’t mention, our players still look committed to the manager and it shows on the pitch.

So when the media report that Juranovic could leave as he is ‘unhappy’ that a new contract can’t be agreed, that doesn’t necessarily mean he is unhappy at the club.

And now, it seems, we have the same issue with Giorgos Giakoumakis.

The Greek striker has been in deadly form since signing for Celtic scoring 25 goals in 50 appearances [Transfermarkt].

That doesn’t sound like the kind of form of an ‘unhappy’ striker.

But according to the Daily Record“It’s reported that this was on the understanding [taking a drop in pay to sign for Celtic] his wages would be improved if he had a successful first season in Scottish football.

“So, while a pay rise has been offered by Celtic, they are still some way short of where Giakoumakis and his representatives believe his salary should be.

“Postecoglou has made it clear that if players are not happy at Celtic then he will not stand in his way.”

Now I’m no expert and have no insider knowledge but where are the media getting Postecoglou ‘will not stand in his way’ from?

Ange always plays his cards close to his chest. Never gives anything away and if Giakoumakis is serious about staying then if this has come from his camp then his chances of securing a new deal diminish. So I can’t see it coming from there.

So is Giakoumakis unhappy at the club or just unhappy that he has not signed a new deal yet?

Because there is a major difference between both.

I guess we will find out in the coming weeks.

It’s all likely to be naught but made-up claptrap designed to unnerve us and the team. These bluenose churnalists will desperately try anything to screw us and their favourite klub…

I’m not convinced that Giak took a pay cut from VW Venlo in the first place, really? However we maybe enticed him away from clubs who could offer more wages but not European football with a promise of higher wages after a year. If he is not happy let him leave, when it came to champions league, he didn’t set the heather on fire, did he? Ange also said we need to be buying the next level up, the 5-8 million pound players to make an impact at champions league, so some must leave to enable us to do this.
