Celtic could be handed a January transfer boost as English Championship side Derby County was his with another points deduction today.

The club have been punished for breaching the EFL’s profitability and sustainability rules and were today, hit with a further nine point deduction with three points suspended.

This leaves The Rams rooted to the bottom of the English Championship on an incredible MINUS three points, which surely even at this stage of the season, damns them to relegation into the English third tier.

And why is this advantageous to the Hoops?

Celtic have been linked with two of Derby County players, former Scotland keeper David Marshall and young left back Lee Buchanan in recent months and this latest development, coupled with their financial issues, could pave the way to the club reducing their financial demands. At least for at Lee Buchanan.

Buchanan has been linked with the Hoops since the summer and The Sun reported back in October that the club may look to sell him in the January window.

That could well be revised as the youngster enters the last six months of his contract and rather than lose him for free, The Rams may look at a cut price option to and recoup any kind of return for him.

David Marshall also enters into the final six months of his contract and he has admitted that he is looking to leave the club in January to try and secure a long term contract and first team football with his main aim of a return to international football.

Celtic have been linked since August for a return to Paradise for Marshall and it seems todays latest development may lead the club to releasing him to help reduce their wage bill.
