Former Rangers Manager, Ally McCoist, is the latest personality with Ibrox connections to suggest that the Scottish Premiership season should be declared null and void if there is no way of completing the remaining fixtures.
Surprisingly he doesn’t agree with Neil Lennon’s claims that Celtic have demonstrated that they have been they best team and therefore deserve to be crowned champions.
McCoist was responding to Chris Sutton on The Ladbrokes Debate (via The Daily Record) who has already nailed his colours to the mast with regards the destination of the title should the 2019/20 season be written off.
The BT pundit and Talksport presenter said in his rebuttal:
“You cannot possibly give a team a title when they haven’t won the title – and I include Liverpool in England in this.”
“You can’t reward a team for something that hasn’t happened – ‘there you are, you’re the champions’ when you’re actually not the champions. More importantly you cannot punish a team when the season isn’t over – i.e. Hearts.”
“The football authorities must exhaust every potential avenue to finish the season and if they can’t then the season must be null and void but that is the worst scenario.”
Celtic fans responded to McCoist’s claims on Twitter as the latest in a long line of Rangers fans do all they can to prevent the inevitable – 9-in-a-row heading to Parkhead.

All of the “null & void” suggestions are ludicrous. It will have a catastrophic affect on the game, with some clubs in real danger of going out of business. ‘Rangers’ included.
That doesn’t seem to bother fans or ex players, but they’re used to it now. Deluded!— Steve Johnson (@Protegimus_Bhoy) March 17, 2020
Doesn’t matter what happens. Celtic fans can still celebrate as champions. If they say they are champions then they are champions. Same way Newco say they are Rangers. It’s already 9 in a row. Get celebratin.

The same McCoist who said the league was over after The Rangers drew with St Johnstone last month?

In a discussion that is becoming boring now, fans from across the country will have to wait for the SFA and SPFL’s decision based on when the outbreak has subsided to a level that allows players to train safely and for fixtures to be played – when this might be is anyone’s guess.
