James Forrest is set to miss the next 4-6 weeks according to Neil Lennon after being diagnosed with a stress fracture in his ankle – he will now miss the derby after the international break.

The Scotsman reported the gaffer’s press conference in which he gave an update on the Scotland winger’s condition, this should now see Jeremie Frimpong enjoy an extended run in the first team:

“He has a minor stress fracture in the ankle.

“It is remarkable that he played with that for a few games as well, but obviously it got to the point where it was impossible.

“We first thought it didn’t show up on scan, but he had a CT scan and it showed a slight stress fracture.

“It is going to take a week or two to settle down then obviously he has to rehab.

“But the prognosis of the time out will still be the same, roughly four to six weeks.”

Forrest hasn’t been at the level of recent seasons but a lot of this could be down to him being played at wing-back rather than further up the park, he performs the task manfully but it isn’t his strongest position.

Who would you start at right wing-back?

Lennon will be gutted to lose a player who has been so important over the last ten years and one that knows what it takes to win titles and trophies, he is almost perfectly embodies this current Celtic team in that he can be having a poor game and yet still either provide the cross for the winning goal, or score it himself.

The strength of the starting line-up isn’t significantly reduced – some might suggest it will improve – but Forrest’s experience and the flexibility he gives Lennon to rotate his squad will still have a detrimental effect on match day – hopefully he will be back sooner rather than later to help lead the charge for ten.
