Celtic manager Neil Lennon praised the response from his side as they emphatically crushed Dundee United 6-2 at Parkhead.

“We wanted to re-affirm our position as the best team in the country” – Neil Lennon

The Hoops moved eighteen points clear at the top of the table with the perfect reaction following their midweek Champions League disappointment. Kris Commons and Anthony Stokes both scored twice and Joe Ledley and Efe Ambrose added further efforts.

However, the champions were also very grateful to goalkeeper Fraser Forester as he successfully kept out Jon Daly’s first-half penalty.

“I got a fantastic response,” Lennon told BBC Scotland. “We have come a long, long way in a short space of time and the players showed their quality. I’m delighted, everyone played well.

“That’s one of our best performances at home but since the turn of the year our performances at home have been pretty spectacular and long may it continue,” he added. “We wanted to re-affirm our position as the best team in the country and I think we’ve done that.”
