Lennon reveals transfer plans are ongoing, trio in discussions, deals could be done quickly

|

Neil Lennon has revealed discussions are ongoing with Peter Lawwell and Lee Congerton about bringing players into Celtic during the summer transfer window, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

With no permanent manager in place beyond this season, some fans have worried that the uncertainty could negatively impact on our planning in the summer and ultimately our European qualifying campaign.

Lennon though has pointed out that the Hoops trio are talking already about players they want to bring in, also noting that deals could be concluded pretty quickly in the close season.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, the Celtic boss said:

I met with Peter and Lee on Wednesday so there are plans in place already.

There are positions identified and some players identified and there is a plan going forward, so it is business as usual as far as I am concerned and until I am told otherwise.

Some of the players are away playing in tournaments and the Under-20 World Cup and things like that.

It is important to do as much business as quickly as possible and if we can get it done now then even better.

Is it the same as if you were here permanently? Yes.

We haven’t touched on pre-season training yet. I think there was a meeting the other day that I couldn’t make, but that’s all in hand too.

Lennon’s future may be uncertain, but it’s heartening to hear plans are already well underway to make sure there are plans in place heading into next season.

Whether it’s the former captain’s job or another’s, this is work that needs to be done now and having Lennon in there making decisions makes sense either way.

It sounds like the Hoops are also planning a big summer in terms of transfers with a high turnover of players expected.

A number of first-team stars are either returning to parent clubs on loan or have expiring contracts, meaning that the club will need to spend significantly to build a new squad.

The sooner that business can be done the better.
