Neil Lennon has denied any transfer interest in Paris FC forward Silas Wamangituka after jetting to France last week to scout a match between the Ligue 2 side and Valenciennes.
The Scottish Sun reported yesterday morning that the Hoops manager was in the country to check out Wamangituka after an impressive debut season for the French club during which he’s scored nine goals.
Lennon though was asked about the interest after yesterday’s win over Kilmarnock, telling The Daily Record: “It wasn’t him. But we are looking at players. And centre-forward is a position I would look at.”
It begs the question – who was the manager scouting?
Lennon clearly wouldn’t be travelling to France if the initial recruitment process at Lennoxtown did not flag up a real talent that could improve the first-team, but who that player is remains a mystery as of this morning.
With the position an apparent priority, Nathael Julan is an obvious candidate given he was the centre-forward starting for Valenciennes but with just one goal this season, would he be a viable target?
It’ll be interesting to see if another name from the match is reported over the coming days, or whether Lennon is simply deflecting questions away from an actual interest in the Paris striker.
