SPL season 2010/11 has been one of the most intriguing title races in recent years, marred by controversy, wacky results (Rangers 0 – 3 Hibernian, lol) and a threatened challenge to the Celtic/rangers dominance from Hearts – which Celtic knocked aside with ease on Wednesday night at Celtic Park!

However, one thing that stands out in my mind is Neil Lennon. Lenny’s maiden season at the helm could very well turn out to be his first of many; depending on how it turns out come May, of course. He really has been through it all in his first season, from getting two members of the ‘establishment’ booted out of office, to getting a blatant attack on his character via the unprecedented 6 match ban imposed on him.

Add that to his sick ‘admirers’ who so whole heartedly sent him a package containing bullets. Lennon lives in this environment, he lives and thrives off the hate and bile spewed his way and has done so as a player and is now admirably coping as a manager. Couple this with his 2:1 record over the so called shrewdest mind in Scottish football (ha!) and I would say he’s not doing half bad. Eh?

Neil Lennon is a very respectable man in terms of his honesty and integrity, yet he is attacked from left, right and centre with petty insults over his teeth or his ginger hair or his neddish behaviour (Ned being a Scottish version of a chav), but in reality this hate comes not simply from rival fans, but from anti-Catholic and anti-Irish bigots who would besmirch the name of a man who is only doing a job at his most beloved Celtic.

Lets hope Lenny proves his doubters wrong – both from outside and inside the Celtic family. He is an absolute legend for this club and, regardless of what the final outcome is come May (a treble, hopefully) he will always be a Celtic legend because he lives and breathes this club. Its his blood, family and life, so to all the doubters and nay-sayer’s watch this young Irishman from Lurgan prove you all wrong!
