The agents of Roberto Martinez and Andre Villas-Boas have both ruled out their clients from a move to Celtic this summer as potential replacements for interim boss Neil Lennon.
Lennon has the job until the end of the season after Brendan Rodgers walked out in February, but there is constant speculation about the direction the club will head in this summer.
Martinez’s agent Jesse De Preter told The Scottish Sun earlier today: “Roberto always seems to be on the shortlist as soon as there is a vacancy at a big club. But this is a false rumour about him going to Celtic. It seems to have come from the fact Roberto has a Scottish wife and he obviously has ties to the country. However, there’s nothing to see here and I would suggest the bookies review their odds.”
The representative of Villas-Boas, Jean-Paul Lares, followed up those quotes quickly, also telling The Scottish Sun: “André will not be working in Scotland in the foreseeable future and will not be available for comment.”
The news on both comes after another past reported option, Marco Rose, was announced as the new Borussia Monchengladbach boss earlier this week.
That’s three names that have crumbled to dust in just a few days and it looks increasingly like Neil Lennon will become the permanent manager of the club, especially if he delivers trophy success in the tail-end of the season.
The Hoops are on the brink of another league title and are two games away from winning the Scottish Cup. Win a treble and it may be difficult to deny he deserves another opportunity at the job.
