Former Notts County manager Shaun Derry knows Celtic’s Callum McGregor and Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish well given he had both of them on loan at Meadow Lane as they looked to step up their development a number of years ago, but fans won’t appreciate his recent comments on our 26-year-old midfield star as he’s basically encouraged him to test himself in the Premier League with Leicester City.

Following the departure of former manager Brendan Rodgers to the King Power Stadium, McGregor became an easy go-to on the rumour mill as a target for him and only a few weeks back The Scottish Sun were again speculating that Rodgers would return with a £25million bid whenever the 2019/20 campaign comes to an end and we tick into 2020/21.

Speaking recently to the same outlet, Derry admitted that in talks with friend, and Leicester assistant Chris Davies, McGregor is a regular topic of conversation as they loved working with him at Parkhead and, clearly, would like to again.

“Celtic fans won’t want him to leave but, being selfish, I’d love to see Callum pit his wits against the best players in England. I’m a good friend of Chris Davies, who’s worked with Brendan Rodgers at Swansea, Liverpool, Celtic and now Leicester City. We speak regularly about Callum and they clearly loved working with him in Glasgow.”

Given the current pause in the campaign, there are bigger things to worry about and finalise at this moment in time, but if McGregor is to depart at the end of the year, a fee in the region of £25million would certainly soften the blow.
