This is a new one. I’ve heard all sorts of accusation being thrown around (maybe accusations is a bit extreme, let’s call it opinions) about Celtic’s business in the transfer window.

From fans saying it is not enough is being done, to others like this site, that have said for a first window, Ange Postecoglou has done a great job so far.

With the arrival of flair players like Kyogo Furuhashi, Liel Abada and Filipe Jota, to the guys that lock the back door in Cameron Carter Vickers, Carl Starfelt and Josip Juranovic, it is fair to say Postecoglou has managed to get the best balance he could considering the small amount of time he has had at the helm.

But one thing that I have never heard before about any of Ange’s signings is that they are panic buys. And that is exactly what football site Sportskeeda has claimed about the acquisition of Hoops keeper, Joe Hart.

What makes the claim even more bizarre is that everyone knew that Vasilis Barkas wasn’t cutting the mustard at Celtic. Everyone knew that the club were on the lookout for a new No 1 and it was common knowledge that Celtic has an interest in Hart before the signed Barkas last season.

So why call it a panic buy?

The site define’s a panic buy as “When a club wants to add a player to their squad after losing one of their regulars to a transfer or an injury, it is called a panic buy.” which is strange Hart was neither of those.

Sportskeeda said of the move, “Joe Hart was arguably very lucky to secure a move to Celtic this summer transfer window.

“Having made a total of zero Premier League appearances over the last two seasons, there was a definite air of panic upon his arrival at Celtic Park.”

Which is a strange take as anyone will tell you that with Celtic’s recent history we have a track record of pulling in goalkeepers that clearly have quality but just need a break. Craig Gordon and Fraser Forster being two names that spring to mind.

Celtic saw an weakness in their squad, a pretty major one, and addressed it quickly. Panic? If Joe Hart is a panic buy then let’s see more of them because he has already proved his worth to the team in his short stint at Parkhead.
