It’s not even the end of September yet and Celtic’s need to strengthen in the January window has never been more apparent.

With defensive deficiencies already highlighted not only Europe, but also the first six games of the league, there is no doubt Ange Postecoglou will dip his toe in the transfer market in January to help bolster his back line.

With Josip Juranovic and Carl Starfelt added permanently to the squad for a total of £6.5m, it looks like Ange is being tipped to splurge another £5m to make Carlton Carter-Vickers’ loan move permanent.

As reported by The Transfer Tavern, a Tottenham insider, John Wenham, has claimed that the Hoops will take up the option to buy as soon as possible, “Celtic, in my opinion, will take up that option to buy him as soon as January.

“He is starting games and scored a goal, they really like him. For whatever reason at Tottenham, he has been there too long without making it.

“Sometimes you need to go elsewhere and establish yourself. Wherever he has been he has done really well.

“I know Luton wanted to keep him and Bournemouth would have kept him but the money wasn’t quite right.”

Carter-Vickers has already impressed the Hoops fans in the short time he has been at the club. Powerful and strong, Vickers is a unit of a man that provides some much needed steel in the centre of defence that has been missing since Christopher Julien has been out the side.

Should Ange take up the option, that would take his spending to over £25m with the Celtic fans believing that more money needs to be thrown at the team in order to mount a serious title challenge.
