Celtic have confirmed their interest in Norwegian champions Stromsgodset’s midfielder Stefan Johansen.

“We have made an enquiry for him but I don`t know how far down the line we are with it” – Neil Lennon

The 23-year-old playmaker is currently in Abu Dhabi with the Norwegian national team but has already alerted the interest of Hoops manager Neil Lennon.

Johansen helped Stromsgodset to the Norwegian title ahead of nearest challengers Rosenborg with four goals in 27 appearances last season.

No offer has yet been submitted by Celtic for a £2m-rated player who is also attracting significant attention from elsewhere, according to his agent.

“There is an interest and we have made an enquiry for him but I don’t know how far down the line we are with it,” Lennon told the Daily Record. “He’s a good young player we’ve had watched a couple of times.”

To date Johansen has six full international caps to his credit while scoring once after making his debut last year.
