Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor hopes to be moving towards a call-up to the national side.

Manager Brendan Rodgers has told him to keep reproducing his club form after not being selected alongside six of his team-mates in Gordon Strachan’s latest Scotland squad. Craig Gordon, Kieran Tierney, Stuart Armstrong, Scott Brown, James Forrest and Leigh Griffiths were each included.

“He said just to keep going, keep playing well and hopefully it comes,” McGregor told BBC Scotland. “It’s Gordon’s decision. He has a good squad of boys. He trusts them.

“They’re coming towards the end of the campaign and they need to win the next few games,” he added. “So, for him, he’s picked a squad he thinks can do the job. It’s up to me to try to force my way in.”
