The introduction of VAR is something that has been at the forefront of Scottish football for a number of weeks now.

With the Scottish league champions on course to bank £40m with automatic entry into the Champions League groups stages, many Celtic fans are extremely keen on the new technology to be applied to the Scottish game.

From the weekends point of view, VAR would have ensured that St Johnstone striker Chris Kane got the red card he fully deserved for his kicks and then follow up punch to Cameron Carter Vickers.

It would also have stopped the silly assertions that Kyogo’s trip in the box was not 100% a penalty and it might also have caught onto the fact that Efe Ambrose has a cheeky off the ball dig at Kyogo AND Jota will have been awarded a penalty for Zander Clarke’s clear push on Jota in the eighteen yard box.

And that’s just one game! I haven’t even mentioned our offside goal against Hearts at the start of the season and Andy Halliday’s studs up on Callum McGregor’s ankle.

And don’t get me started on the dubious decisions those on the south side get from the men in black.

But the announcement that VAR will be introduced to the SPFL as early as next week was met with a rousing seal of approval from the followers of Hoops facebook site Celtic Insider.

This one Celtic fan made a cheeky dig at Rangers striker Morelos. Whatever could he mean?

And then there seems to be the insinuation that the boys from Ibrox are somehow advantaged by the absence of VAR. Whatever could they mean?

Whatever happens, the introduction of VAR will be a massive change to the game and one that would, hopefully, eradicate these honest mistakes for good.

Wouldn’t it?
