Neil Lennon wants Celtic reunion with former star – on summer transfer wishlist if he gets job

|

Interim Celtic manager Neil Lennon is keen on signing striker Gary Hooper this summer if he is given the permanent job at Celtic Park, according to The Scottish Sun.

The paper say Lennon sees Hooper as the kind of striker Celtic need to boost the squad’s attack next season as we attempt to secure a ninth Scottish league title in a row.

They also report that Hooper himself is keen on making a return to Glasgow after leaving Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer at the end of the English Championship season.

The 31-year-old scored 82 goals and assisted 30 more in a successful three-year spell working under Lennon between 2010 and 2013.

He’s failed to find that kind of consistency at Norwich City and Wednesday since though and has missed the vast majority of the 2018/19 season due to injury.

As a budget signing we could probably do worse, but there would be serious question marks about his ability in comparison to his first spell at the club.

The striking position is one that needs strengthened with Timo Weah and Oliver Burke due to head back to their parent clubs this summer.

Odsonne Edouard is and would remain a clear first choice but could Hooper provide the team with the depth needed to compete in multiple competitions?
