This week sees the league campaign kick-off.

No this isn’t a typo, or an article held up in cyberspace for a full week. This Sunday sees the Celtic Women’s team take on their first league match of the SWPL season.

Starting off this season against Hibs at home, the Celtic Women will look to continue to improve under the tutelage of boss Fran Alonso.

Indeed, for the squad it has been a summer of change, with 7 new signings for the team, clearly worldwide scouting for the team has been a priority, with seven new arrivals from far reaches of the globe such as New Zealand, China and Canada.

Indeed, recently my colleague, Paddy Sinat highlighted the progress of the women’s team through the signing Liv Fergusson from Coventry United and Canadian striker Clarissa Larisey from Icelandic club Valur.

Larisey is expected to add more goals to the Celtic tally after scoring 34 times in 73 appearances in her time at the University of Memphis.

The managerial style of Fran Alonso has allowed the Celtic Woman’s team to develop their own aggressive, forward-thinking attacking play, not too dissimilar to the Ange ball revolution will drive more and more Celtic Fans to the games allowing their talents to truly flourish without prejudice.

I am looking forward to watching the SWPL season getting underway, and I will hope that any fan, who can make it, can go and find time to support our Women’s football team and make this a year to remember for Alonso’s players.
