As Ange Postecoglou starts to plan his summer rebuild, reports are emerging from an English media source that Celtic are on the verge of signing Sunderland striker Charlie Wyke.

Celtic have been tracking the hitman and held talks with his representatives earlier in the summer and are confident of persuading the big Englishman to turn his back on The Black Cats and join up with Postecoglou at Paradise.

There are a host of other clubs south of the border looking to tempt the Teesider to sign on the dotted line and it is thought that Sunderland have offered Wyke terms that are equal to Celtic’s, so it really is dependant on whether the striker has ambitions to play at the top level or is willing to languish in England’s second tier for another season.

Is Ange Postecoglou the man for the Celtic job?

Wykes was in devastating form for Sunderland last season scoring an outstanding thirty goals in fifty three appearances and with Cardiff City, Millwall and Nottingham Forrest all having held talks with Wyke, Celtic may face a fight on their hands to get their man.

At just 28 years of age, Wyke is in his prime but  has failed to hit goal scoring double figures prior to this season.

Celtic are expecting the departures of Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths in the coming weeks which leaves them threadbare up front with only Albian Ajeti and returning loan striker, Vakoun Bayo as the clubs only recognised first team strikers.

With question marks still over Ajeti and Bayo, Celtic will look to bring in quality up top just in time for pre season camp which starts on July 5th.
