Nir Bitton has revealed that it has not all been plain sailing following his positive test for coronavirus after the utility man was diagnosed whilst on international duty with Israel.

The Celtic star remains affected by the illness and although some players, Odsonne Edouard being one of them, appear to be asymptomatic, the 28-year old has been hard hit, as reported by The Daily Record:

“I went through some hard days with this virus. It wasn’t easy at all. Before I got the disease I underestimated it, but it was not pleasant.

“I had headaches, my muscles ached and I could not stand up. I had to sit. You do not know what you are heading towards.

“Everyone knows how the disease starts, but not how it ends.

“If it affected me, a young and athletic guy, I do not know how it affects older people.

“We see deaths and I need to say to people, watch out. Stay at home and look after your relatives. This is not an easy disease.

“I am still without taste and smell, but I hope it will come back soon and that the hardships are behind me.”

There has been no official update on how the other players that were affected are feeling and like Bitton, they will all be subjected to a series of tests before being allowed to take part in training again and joining up with the main group.

Was Bitton a miss in derby defeat?

Yes

No

No

That Edouard was available for selection but didn’t make the squad for the derby on Saturday raised alarm bells about the striker’s condition heading into a critical run of fixtures that could make or break Celtic’s season.

Hoops fans will be hoping that Bitton and co make a full and speedy recovery not just for the good of their health but because their deputies on Saturday did little to suggest that they have the quality to step up to the plate in their absence.
