Celtic have been linked with a move for Portsmouth defender Jack Whatmough this week, as Brendan Rodgers continues to try and add first-team quality talent to his squad.
The Hoops have already made three signings in the January transfer window, which is actually a pretty refreshing pace in recent times.
Fans are excited to see what Oliver Burke, Timothy Weah and Vakoun Issouf Bayo can add to the starting eleven.
However, the club have done nothing in terms of defensive recruitment, which was arguably the biggest priority heading into the winter break.
With Dedryck Boyata set to leave within the next few months and Filip Benkovic heading back to Leicester City at the end of the season, the need for centre-backs is strong.
The Sun reported on Tuesday that we were battling with Rangers for Whatmough, who has been a key part of Portsmouth’s promotion bid from English League One this season.
The 22-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season so would not be an expensive acquisition.
What comes of this rumour remains to be seen, but it’s at least a good sign that Portsmouth fans are worried about losing him, with many taking to Twitter this week to discuss the reports.
Is he someone you would sign?

At 22 he is a very accomplished defender and will improve. I want it to be with us.
