Chris Sutton has weighed into the Celtic manager debate and has said categorically that interim manager, John Kennedy, must not be hired as the next Celtic manager. Sutton pulled no punches on the Record Celtic Podcast as he described the appointment of Kennedy as being “underwhelming” in the eyes of the supporters, “No, it just it just can’t happen and John’s a good Celtic man a good club man but what message would that send to the supporters? John has been part of the Neil Lennon regime and has been a loyal servant to the club and loyal to Neil, but I just think that would be such an underwhelming appointment.

“Imagine the supporters turning up for the first day of next season and John Kennedy’s in charge. With the great disrespect to John, and John may end up in future years to come to manage Celtic but he cannot manage Celtic next season. That is a no no appointment and John may be a really excellent coach.
“I actually think you know the performance against Dundee United the team played some good stuff they lacked to cutting edge of course, and in years to come he may really develop into a top top coach but now is not the right time to appoint John Kennedy.”
From the amount of opinions I have seen on various Facebook groups, Sutton is bang on the money with this opinion and I also agree that Kennedy is a very good coach and may well one day, take on the top job in Paradise, but at a time when money is badly needed to help fund the rebuilding job in the summer, the Celtic board cannot play Russian roulette with this next appointment if they intend to sell not only season tickets, but also next season to the Celtic fans who are patiently standing by with season ticket money, waiting, to see the boards next move!
