Celtic fans have laughed off suggestions from Rangers chairman Dave King that the Ibrox club are close to becoming dominant in Scottish football.

King released an ill-advised statement to supporters yesterday, claiming that his side ‘are now within tangible reach of Rangers becoming the dominant force in Scottish football again.’

Those are baffling comments when you consider the current status of the two teams, with Celtic again on the brink of a famous treble of domestic trophies.

Neil Lennon’s side are currently 11 points clear of the Ibrox side in the Scottish Premiership table, having won the Scottish League Cup and booked our place in the Scottish Cup final next month.

Rangers have been nowhere in either cup competition, with their only real ‘success’ coming when they qualified for the UEFA Europa League group stage.

What’s more, it puts even more pressure on Steven Gerrard’s shoulders ahead of the new season.

Celtic fans have found the whole thing hilarious, taking to Twitter this week to share their thoughts…

What did you make of Dave King’s statement this week? Have your say in the comments below…
