Former Champions League winner and Celtic hero, Paul Lambert, has entered the bookies reckoning for the next Celtic manager.  Within the last hour, Lambert has left his position with Ipswich Town citing “differences of opinions”.  Owner Marcus Evans said of the departure, “It has become clear after holding discussions over the last few days that there are significant differences of opinion as to the order of immediate priorities and we agreed it was best for us to part company.

Should Roberto Martinez replace Neil Lennon?

“I would like to put on record my sincere thanks to Paul and Stuart for their services to Ipswich Town over the last two and half years. I have enjoyed a healthy working relationship with Paul in our time together and he has brought a lot of positive aspects to the club.”

Lambert has had limited success as a manager in English football winning the League One Championship with Norwich City in 2009 and following that up with promotion to the English Premier League the following season.

He then moved onto Aston Villa and spent two seasons at the Midlands club reaching the semi finals of the League Cup.  He then enjoyed stints at Blackburn and Wolves before moving onto Stoke City where he led them to relegation from the EPL. Lambert then signed for Ipswich Town in 2018 and the following season found The Tractor Boys relegated to England’s third tier.

He remained manager of Ipswich despite taking them down to League One and has left them in eighth position in the league. As news of his resignation circulated, the odds of Lambert taking over at Celtic Park tumbled from 33/1 to as low as 9/1.
