Former Invincible legend, Erik Sviatchenko, has opened up on the rumours linking him with a return to Paradise this summer as Ange Postecoglou’s plots his Parkhead revolution.  With Celtic requiring major reinforcements in their backline with the expected departure of Kristoffer Ajer, the FC Midtjylland captain is being seen as an ideal fit for the Hoops.

With Sviatchenko’s experience of playing and winning trophies for Celtic, many would regard this as a sensible move and by all accounts, the deal would not cost the earth to complete.

At the moment, these are still just rumours but Danish media site Tipsbladet, have released an interview with the former Invincible and what he disclosed was extremely interesting, “I know I have played at a super high level for three seasons now and am in my prime football age for a central defender. I have a huge experience both internationally and from different squads, experience as captain, so you can’t just find that player everywhere.

“Of course, I also understand that Midtjylland are really happy that they have me, but we have also had a clear agreement and indication that when exactly the right thing comes, I also get the chance to do so.

“But of course there must also be that interest. And the interest is there, but it has to come together. That’s why I always find it hard to comment on rumours. In two weeks, suddenly there will be something, and then it will be a new situation. It may also be that there is nothing.

“But I’ve told my people that if the right thing comes, of course I’m really interested. And if not, then I have also indicated that I am of course motivated and ready for new times. So we’ll see how it develops.

“It’s always hard to comment on rumours like that. We’ll see what happens. It’s a great club, but I don’t really know more than what it says. Then we’ll see if there’s anything in it.”

Sviatchenko certainly seems to be open to a move and with the big Dane having the experience of captaining his club could Postecoglou see this move as an eye to solving the captain question currently hanging over the club? It certainly seems so and at 30 years old, the former Celt still has his best years ahead of him.
