Celtic have put their Old Firm defeat fully behind them according to last night’s two-goal hero Anthony Stokes.

The former Hibernian striker struck twice in the 3-2 Co-operative Insurance Cup quarter-final win at St Johnstone, as Celtic joined Aberdeen, Motherwell and Rangers in the last four of the competition.

“We had a chat about the Old Firm game the other day after training, and the gaffer said we are drawing a line under it,” Stokes told the Glasgow Evening Times. “We just have to forget about it because, at the end of the day, we know it is massive for the fans and was a massive game, but when it comes down to it, is three points.

“We can`t dwell on it, and we had to respond last night. The main thing was to get a win, which we did.”

As for last evening’s encounter, Stokes admitted to feeling disappointed that his side failed to build upon scoring three times during a sensational opening thirteen minutes and were actually left hanging on in the end.

“We started well, but they were at home and we always knew they were going to get into the game at some stage,” he added. “It was just disappointing the way we let them back in. It was a mistake, and that can happen to anyone.

“But the lads did well at the end. We stayed strong and got the win, which was the main thing.”
