It seems that the links to the Japanese J League have begun already and where else was the speculation to start than Ange Postecoglou’s old stomping ground at Yokohama F Marinos.  Postecoglou will have great knowledge of the Japanese and Asian markets and no doubt he will use his huge pulling power and popularity to, hopefully, pull off a couple of transfer coups to help drive on the Celtic rebuild.

In  a report released today that Postecoglou has his former Yokohama striker Ado Onaiwu in his sights. Onaiwu has been in sensational form for the J league side this season as he has bagged thirteen goals in twenty three appearances.

Onaiwu started his career JED United Chiba back in 2014 where he spent three seasons before moving on to Urawa Reds in 2017.  In  a stunning debut season, Onaiwu helped his side win the AFC Champions League and the J League Cup. He was also the runner up in the Japanese Super Cup but his taste for silverware may well persuade him to sign for the former Scottish Champions.

With Celtic in the Champions League qualifiers, they can offer Onaiwu the opportunity to showcase his talent on the world stage which could help him boost his chances of making his debut for the full Japanese national squad.

Postecoglou will know the player inside out and with Onaiwu entering the final 6 months of his contract, a cut price deal could be struck to secure his signature to help bring him to Parkhead in time for the kick off of the new 2021/22 season.
