There’s no doubt that former Celtic attacking midfielder Kris Commons created plenty of fond memories for supporters while at the Hoops, but his punditry and columns in the Scottish media over the last year have been growing increasingly annoying.

His latest claims, that James Forrest will be off to England sharpish if he keeps his current form up, are sensationalist at best and completely misinformed at worst.

Forrest of course hit the headlines for all the right reasons over the weekend after his four-goal display away to St Johnstone in the Scottish Premiership, but Commons couldn’t resist turning it into a potential negative for the Hoops.

Writing in his column for the Scottish Daily Mail, Commons said:

Inconsistency has plagued him over the years but he’s on the verge now of taking his game to a different level.

He is 27 years old and signed a new four-year deal just a couple of weeks ago, which made it seem like he might be set to spend his whole career at Parkhead.

But, if he carries on playing like he did on Sunday, there’s no chance that will happen.

One of the big clubs in England would soon snap him up for a hefty transfer fee.

It’s a rather absurd conclusion, especially when you consider Forrest was scoring his first goals for the club since July on Sunday.

Forrest has actually been pretty loyal to Celtic over the years and if he wanted to chase money elsewhere he would likely already be gone. We all remember he had just a few months left on his contract before Brendan Rodgers arrived at the club having rejected a new deal.

He’s matured as a personality as well as a player and it seems seriously unlikely he’d be giving up all that anytime soon, especially on the back of a new four-year contract that will take him into his 30s.

Can we not enjoy one good Celtic performance without speculation that it all means our brightest talents want to leave Glasgow?

Please be more level-headed next time Kris.
