It’s a concerning time to be a Celtic fan. Not only did we lose the derby against Rangers, but now the Gers have stolen a march on us in the January transfer window, too. Indeed, Rangers have already brought in two top players – in Steven Davis and Jermain Defoe – and that should seriously worry Brendan Rodgers.

Both players will fill a couple of very important gaps for Rangers. Defoe will give Steven Gerrard another option behind Alfredo Morelos, whilst Davies will add some real quality to the Rangers midfield. Given that Morelos is arguably the best forward in Scotland right now, and the fact that Rangers controlled the midfield when we faced them, that’s a real worry.

What is perhaps even more concerning is the fact that we’re only just over a week into January. If Rangers are able to bring in all of this talent in just a few days, just imagine where they could be come the end of the month.

Sure, we’ve brought in Oliver Burke, but he’s not exactly a signing that will generate a lot of excitement.  Meanwhile, Timothy Weah isn’t exactly coming in with loads of experience or proven talent. We need more than that, and we need it fast. It’s not time to panic, but it is time to worry somewhat.

The silver lining for us is that our squad is already strong, and we are still top of the league. That means that we’ve got a bit of a headstart on Rangers. However, if they continue to improve, and we continue to stagnate, that does not bode very well at all for the second half of the season.
