When Moussa Dembele swapped Celtic for Lyon over the summer, it’s fair to say that it was a huge loss for Brendan Rodgers. Dembele had really come of age in Scotland, and he emerged as one of our most important players.

All good things must come to an end, though, and we were forced to enter the 2018/19 season without our star forward. Fortunately, Odsonne Edouard was there to take over the reigns.

He’s made a solid start to the season so far, and he’s now got a chance to really make a name for himself. Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Leigh Griffiths is set to be out for action for a few more weeks at least, and that gives Edouard the perfect chance to become one of Rodgers’ most trusted men.

Granted, he’s already had a good few weeks. He’s bagged 4 league goals this season, and that on its own is a testament to his quality. He offers tremendous quality going forward, and with decent energy and solid technical skill, the Frenchman is easily one of our better players.

However, he’s now got a chance to open up some clear daylight between him and Leigh Griffiths. With a few weeks as our main forward, a few goals could really put him in a commanding position.

Given the competition at Celtic, especially when Griffiths returns, it’s unlikely that he’ll get another chance like this to really make a name for himself. He’s got a few games in which, if he does well, he could easily cement himself as Celtic’s number 9, first choice forward, no questions asked.

It’s over to him to make sure that happens.
