We all know Celtic are in the market for at least another addition to the squad before the transfer window closes this summer.

The speculation surrounding the club trying to capture that elusive defensive midfielder has been rife but with many names linked, there is still no forward movement in that department.

Yet.

Which makes this claim by journalist Pete O’Rourke a little bit strange.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, O’Rourke said, “He was a target earlier this summer when Celtic were looking for central defensive reinforcements.

“They’ve obviously brought in (Moritz) Jenz from France on loan, so maybe that lead is now not required to bring in a new centre-back.

“But I’m sure Celtic will be monitoring the situation, and if players were to leave the club or something opened up, that might be a move they might try and resurrect for Malick Thiaw.”

I agree that if Christopher Jullien does move on this summer we should look to add one more in the central defensive department. But it is widely thought that a left-sided centre back should be on Ange’s shopping list.

And Thiaw is not that man.

Predominately a right-sided central defender and right-footed, to sign Thiaw would not solve that problem at the heart of the defence.

Moritz Jenz equipped himself well at the weekend in that position but it remains to be seen if he will be the answer to a question that many may think doesn’t need to be asked considering the form of Carl Starfelt last season.

With just under three weeks of the window left, the Hoops fans will be watching and waiting to see what other gem Ange can pull out of his transfer hat.
