When Celtic unearthed Ange Postecoglou, unbeknownst to them, they had found themselves a real gem in the football world.

Whilst many of the media and pundits asked “Ange Postecog-who” the Celtic blogging world and fans had already done their homework and were looking forward to seeing what their new gaffer could bring.

Reporters in the know like Dan Orlowitz and Vince Rugari were all telling us that we would love the brand of football Ange will bring and to look out for his second season as that is where ‘Angeball’ really comes to the fore.

And they were correct.

Whilst the Scottish media tried to mock Postecoglou’s early season form last season, the Celtic fans remained patient and backed the boss and now, they are reaping the rewards.

One pundit who has been brave enough to admit he made a mistake is former Aberdeen player Noel Whelan.

Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan held his hands up and called for the Celtic board to offer the Celtic boss a new deal, “This is the main signing they need to make.

“There were a lot of eyebrows raised when they went for him, but he’s shut a lot of people up – myself included.

“He’s built a really good, competitive squad – a team which has won the Scottish Premiership and one that can now compete with most sides in Europe.

“He’s built the squad, all the players are there – so for him to stay, it’s vital.

“The release clause makes complete sense and it’s good business for both parties if someone does come calling.”

I am sure a new deal will be offered to Postecoglou very soon.

With the Celtic boss linked to EPL clubs over the last few weeks, it would make sense for the board to safeguard themselves and ensure that if anyone comes calling, the club are suitably compensated should the manager decide to leave.

It’s the dreaded international break. So take away the boredom and try our *BRAND NEW* quiz. Who are Celtic’s most capped players from these countries?
