Former Hoops striker John Hartson is backing Neil Lennon to take the permanent Celtic job this summer, speaking to BBC Scotland today.

Lennon has been in charge for ten matches so far in his second spell at the Hoops, remaining undefeated.

However, there have been question marks over team performances and a number of dour 0-0 draws that have frustrated Hoops supporters.

Hartson though reckons he’s doing a great job, dismissing the concerns as ‘moaning’ and believing that Lennon will continue to thrive under the pressure of the post.

As quoted by BBC Scotland, the pundit said of his former teammate:

He’s done everything asked of him. Some may be moaning about the quality of the games at the minute, they’ve drawn a couple, but the football hasn’t been brilliant all season, even under the previous manager but we’re on the cusp of a historical treble treble.

He’s become a better manager from being away. He went into Hibs [in 2016] and did an exceptionally good job. They finished in the top six last season, he got them up from the Championship at his first attempt.

This season didn’t go as well for him as previously, but they liked him at Hibs, I thought he played good football. He’s got a bit wiser.

His middle name is pressure, Neil Pressure Lennon. He’s dealt with pressure all his life. It’s water off a duck’s back to him and he loves it.

With the league on the brink of being wrapped up and potential Scottish Cup success to come, May is going to be a massive month in determining whether Lennon is given the gig or not.

Some fans may their reservations but plenty are backing him wholeheartedly too and if we end up winning the treble it may be hard to deny his credentials for taking charge heading into next season.

If a big name appointment is not possible, Lennon may well be the next best thing.

  • I would accept Lennon as manager if he gets the team playing the celtic way, 40 yard crosses into the box is not the way forward, in his last stint as manager he signed some good players that Celtic sold for massive profits. Whoever takes over will have to spend big, Lennon should also utilise the loan players we have as the team are looking jaded and listless, Our players are on good money unlike our 2 recently departed legends who played for a pittance compared to nowadays, it all stemmed from having a love of the club and pride in the shirt they wore. THEY WERE A TEAM LIKE NO OTHER!!!WHAT WE HAVE NOW IS A TEAM OF WANNABES, so lets get the finger out and play the game the CELTIC WAY….
