Celtic’s goalkeeping position has been a thing of mystery this season. Allowing a 38 year old Craig Gordon to leave on a free to be replaced by a £5m Greek international, on the face it, seemed like a great piece of business, but the move quickly turned sour and Vasilis Barkas now finds himself the third choice ‘keeper at Celtic Park.

Barkas arrived at Paradise with a sense of excitement and expectation as Celtic broke the record transfer fee ever paid for a goalkeeper when they brought the thirteen capped Greek champion to Parkhead.

But a string of poor performances and the seemingly inability to dive or come for the ball at set pieces let Celtic fans baffled as to why their club paid vast sums of money for a ‘keeper that consistently got the basic wrong.

Today, ex footballer and now pundit, Tam McManus tweeted that he would be surprised if Celtic never moved for out of contract keeper Ofir Marciano as Edinburgh News Sport revealed that the Israeli international has had offers from Scotland and has already rejected one approach.

Marciano has been in excellent form for Hibernian as he has helped the Edinburgh side reach the Scottish Cup and League Cup semi finals as well as to third place in the Scottish Premier League. Marciano has 26 caps for Israel and remains his countries number one choice between the sticks. The 31 year old has 13 clean sheets in 34 appearances and has conceded 32 goals so far this season.

But is Marciano currently better than what we have at Celtic Park or should the question be, should the Hoops be looking for a ‘Celtic class’ goalkeeper instead of comparing him to what we have at the moment?
