Winger Jonny Hayes was a relieved figure after scoring his first Celtic goal against former club Aberdeen at the weekend.

The 30-year-old made the switch to Celtic Park over the summer but has since been restricted to just seven starts.

However, his efforts helped them secure a 3-0 victory against their second-placed visitors and move eight points clear at the top.

“I was delighted but more delighted by the outcome with Aberdeen obviously being right on our heels in second place,” Hayes told BBC Scotland. “We wanted the win to extend that lead going into Christmas.

“The team’s been doing really well and it’s been difficult to get in at times and, anytime I have played, I’ve been wanting to score and it’s taken until December,” he added. “Obviously it was a little bit of a relief.”
