On-loan Leicester City defender Filip Benkovic was in front of the cameras as the build-up to tonight’s Europa League clash with FC Salzburg continued this week and his interview certainly hit the right chord with these Celtic fans.

Speaking to the Official Site he was saying all the right things about the game later today in terms of Celtic needing to be at their best and approach the game professionally, but with some rumblings that his parent club would call him back in January, the 21-year-old centre-half made it perfectly clear that he wanted to remain with us for the rest of the season.

Leicester manager Claude Puel has since rejected those suggestions as they are pleased with the game time that he’s getting.

“Leicester can bring me back in January but my wish is to stay at Celtic all season. I came here to get trophies, to be part of it, and to help the team. The least I can do is give everything I have on the pitch.”

Having come in at the end of the last transfer window, the Croatian now has 13 starting appearances to his name, with a single showing from the substitutes bench and he registered his first club goal in the Premiership tie with Hearts back in early November.

He’s clearly had an impact on the fans with his efforts.
